The trainer will explain the reason due to which this course designed.

  • To train cabin crew on the IFE system so that they have the skills necessary to operate the system and trouble shoots any of the problems faced during the flight. Doing so will help them to satisfy the passenger and ensure the system is operated correctly so it is more reliable

So in this session we’ll be looking at the following areas:

(Need to give people a route map of the headings of the session up-front.  It makes it easier for people to follow the session and take in information.  This can be written up of a flip chart or on a slide or given as a handout)

Getting the Most out of the On-Board IFE system

  • Introduction to the on board IFE systems we have
  • Turning the system on
  • Differences between screen off and shutdown
  • Inputting information – the options
  • System functions
  • Monitoring the system
  • ACARS messaging
  • Shutting the system down

What is IFE system?

System introduction

In this session we will cover the basic information about the system and features relevant to cabin service in the installed system

Matsushita avionic system 3000 and 3000i:

  • Broadcasts video, and audio for the entire aircraft
  • It has high degree of reliability, ease and low maintenance requirements.
  • Passenger can relax and enjoy the AVOD system and wide range of application, massive entertainment library, rich audio and clear video
  • Its menu based, touch screen system
  • PIA has the system on three aircraft BGJ, BGK and BGL
  • MAS 3000i system has the capability of adding internet laptop connectivity that transforms passenger seats into an airborne office.
  • PIA has not activated all the features of the systems

Typical IFE services provided by MAS system 3000 and 3000i include:

Video PA (Public Address) – broad cast safety announcements & special features to cabin monitors and passenger screens

Movie and short subjects – can be broadcast to cabin monitors or selected by passengers via video on demand (VOD)

iXplor – display aircraft location maps altitude, local time, time to destination, and other relevant flight information.

Seat to seat or air to ground telephone calls can be made using the passenger IFE handset

Passenger services system – attendant call and reading light controls are located on passenger handsets & controllers.

Interactive games, destination information and special features can be accessed via the interactive menus on passenger screens.

Tell participants that the system will take a few minutes to start on CMT, but takes about 20-30 minutes to boot properly on entire aircraft. During boot it is recommended not to press any key of menu and wait for the system to boot properly, because the system can get halted.

After arrival the senior pursuer must put the information of arrival and must off the screen.

(What is the difference between screenoff and shut down?)

Screen off and shut down are two different things. Screen off keeps the system on, while the screen is off to protect the system while shut down turns off entire system on aircraft.

The system starts slowly and needs to be ready to work on it properly. “VOD SYSTEMNOT READY” is the message which is displayed when the system is not ready and can’t provide any video or entertainment to the customer. At this time senior pursuers have to wait for ready system. The system is ready when message “VOD SYSTEM IS READY” appears in the right bottom corner of the screen.

HDDA (Hard Disk Drive Array0 is the storage device of the system where all the data, entertainment is resided. System has two HDDAs.

Pre flight operations are:

  • Input flight information
  • Boarding music
  • Cabin announcement
  • Audio announcements
  • Screen save-screen OFF

The Welcome screen appears when the CMT finishes initializing. The Welcome screen displays after the automatic screen saver or system Screen Off command activates. You need a pass code to proceed past the Welcome screen.

Your browser may not support display of this image.

What is the passcode? (If cabin crew have already had an international flight and used the IFE system)

Select the [L1] and then the [R1] from the Welcome screen to display the Main Menu screen.

The screen backlight turns off after a period of inactivity. Access the Welcome screen again by touching the screen, or by pushing any key.

Use the Main Menu screen to access the functional areas of System 3000 before, during, and after the flight, depending on the flight phase. These functions include:

  • [FLIGHT INFO] Flight Information.
  • [CABIN ANNOUNCEMENT].
  • [AUDIO ANNOUNCEMENT].
  • [BOARDING MUSIC].
  • [ENTERTAINMENT].
  • [CREW SERVICES].
  • [SCREEN OFF].

Why buttons are not active? And what to do to make them active?

Except flight information, crew services and screen off buttons, all other buttons are inactive. Because we have not yet started any flight. To start any flight, flight information is necessary to insert.

Use the Flight Info screen to show information specific to a particular flight. The screen’s upper area has the Flight Number completed by the flight crew. In the lower area, the Flight Info screen shows, once per minute, the DATE, TIME (GMT), DEPART (airport and time), ARRIVE (airport and time), and TIME TO DEST (from this point in time). You can manually change this information by pushing [MODIFY] to activate the text boxes.

Your browser may not support display of this image.

Use the Modify Flight Info screen to change the flight data manually. If the Flight Management Computer (FMC) or Airshow/iXplor is not working properly, manually enter the changes on this screen. NOTE: You must complete all fields above the dividing line before saving flight data. Until these fields are complete, you will see this message: “FLIGHT INFORMATION NOT PROPERLY COMPLETED.”

After entering information main menu will be:

Screen save & screen Off features protect the CMT screen & provide system security when the CMT is unattended.

The screen save feature will initiate automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity of the CMT

When screen save is activated, the CMT screen will turn black.

The “SCREEN OFF” feature can be activated manually to turn OFF the CMT screen

Both features require re-entry of the passcode to gain access to the system 3000 Main Menu.

Ask trainee to enter flight information, play boarding music, play audio and video announcements.

In-Flight operations are:

  • In-Flight entertainment
  • Monitor control
  • Video control
  • iXplor
